Testing Omaru Creek for - Smell

Testing Omaru Creek for - Smell

I am going to find out: What the water smells like in Omaru Creek

I am going to test this by: Smelling the water

Resources and equipment: String, bucket, jars and four types of water samples

I predict that: The culvert water is musty and foul and the bridge water is funky and smelly.

I think this because: People chuck rubbish and it is different compared to the sea.

Results of my tests

Seawater
Fresh and clean
Tap water
clear and odourless
Omaru Creek water by culvert
Putrid and foul
Omaru Creek water by bridge
water plants

My conclusion (what I found out): I found out that the bridge water is stronger than the culvert water. And the sea and tap water is odourless.

Why I think this is: Because we had a good sniff, we can tell which one is stronger.

Teachers disappearing

One day everyone came to school and all our teachers were gone. We were wondering where they went so we waited and waited until someone could come so we went outside of the door. Pt England starting to searched for them.

While we were finding the teachers some of us came back to class and messed it up by playing around. A lot of them were dancing while some of us were on the computer finding a song to play. The rest that were outside came and knocked on the door angrily and shouted “Come out and help us find the teachers.” So we stopped partying/playing, cleaned up the class and went back outside.

“This is a nasty day coming to school without any teachers” I said while scratching my arm. We looked in every classes and we also tried spreading out but we still never found anyone. “Wonder where they have gone? Just cross your fingers that we will find them.”

“These teachers must be hiding from us” said the year 6’s. So we also searched in cupboards because some of the teachers are skinny and they can fit in there, Then we began to in every classroom cupboard but no one was there not even a single person was around the school except the kid.

There was one thing that we did not do, email them to see where they are so we did and we wrote, “Where are you? Where are you? Where are you?” And 15 minutes later no one replied. It was so boring but we kept on going, going and going.

I shouted “I got a mail, I got a mail” and everyone came to see who it was so I checked it and it was only my mum emailing me that I forgot my lunch. So I replied to her “ok thanks for telling me but can you just wait please.” Then she did and just got back to what she was doing.

“Hey everyone there is only one place that we haven't checked, the staffroom” I said. A second later we stood frozen then rushed to the staff. As soon as we got there we shouted “there you guys are.” But then Mr Burt (our principal) said “it is teachers only day.” Then the teachers mumbled “oh sorry you guys we forgot to tell you kids it was teachers only day.” A moment after we grabbed our bags and went home happily.

Testing Omaru Creek for - Colour

Testing Omaru Creek for - Colour

I am going to find out:
What colour the water is.

I am going to test this by:
Comparing different water samples
and describing the colour.

Resources and equipment:
4 water samples 1.The culvert, 2.The bridge, 3.The sea and 4.The tap

I predict that:
Near the culvert is dirty and brownish greenish. I think near the bridge is just lighter than the water near the culvert and the sea and tap  water is much cleaner and lighter.

I think this because:
when people past the culvert and bridge, they chuck rubbish into it. And people waste time picking up the rubbish in the sea. But no rubbish goes into the tap water.

Results of my tests

Sea Water
Cloudy, light and clear
Tap water
Bright and fresh
Omaru Creek water by culvert
Dark with brown rubber bits
Omaru Creek water by bridge
Light green and murky

My conclusion (what I found out):
The seawater is very clear and clean like our tap water. And the culvert water has big lumps and bits of rubber from the road. Also the water near the bridge is green and clear.

Why I think this is:
I think the culvert water is the dirtiest because people always walk past and throw their rubbish in the creek. The bridge water is green because green plants grow under water. The seawater is fresh and clear like the tap water because a lot of mangroves grow.

Mangere Pools

After 2 days being so busy and playing a lot of activities during camp, I finally got to relax and have breather. My friends were excited because we knew we were going to hang out together to the Mangere pools. It was a lovely summers day for a swim and some end of camp fun.

There was a scary moment and my heart was pounding which meant I was nervous, thats when I was going to go on the long slide. I got closer and closer to the beginning of the line. As I first got on to the top of the slide it started off quite slow, but suddenly it got steep and I zoomed into the pool fast which felt like I was going to fall off.

It felt like I was drowning,  but instead I was floating. Water splash onto my face like someone smacked me hard it was sore but I shouted “WOOOHOOO.” I was panicking and thinking where is the top.

As I got the the very bottom of the slide, I hit Anisha and I held onto her because she is tall and  it was deep.  Unable to the ground at first, I eventually turned up the right way, stood on my toes and had a big breath. Finally made it to the edge. I got out of the pools and went back to the top of the slide to do it all again.

Even though I did not go onto the bombing pool, I still had a lovely day.

Testing

A few weeks ago, we started doing tests. I was feeling really nervous because it was the hardest one of all. It was our reading test and what I think is that I might not get high marks but I was a bit ok with itq.

When we got into the music room, Ms Garden told us to go to a computer so we did. As soon as we had filled out of username and password, we clicked on the button that said login. “NOW BEGIN YOUR TEST” Ms Garden said. Then I shook even more and pressed “sit test”

“I think my test is going to be bad” I thought in my head, but I just kept on going. 20 minutes later I got up to question 23 and I felt excited because I was near the end. I said to myself  “What should I do? rush or finish it off properly” So I made the right choice,.....finish it off properly.

I got to question 32 and I said to myself  with a smile “I did well on the test” so then I came to class with a serious facial and a really happy smile.

Fiafia

I didn’t know what fiafia meant, but as soon as I came to this school I knew. It is all about celebrating, being happy and coming together just like a family. If this sounds interesting to you, come along at the end of this term on April 18th.

Come and see what we have practised by our professional teachers. They have amazed the kids with what they taught them. So be sure to come along on April 18th where a lot of talented kids perform.

Do you want to see some Pt Englanders show their talent? Then don’t miss the fun on April 18th. It is fiafia night and that is when kids dance, sing and do traditional items.
